New Delhi: As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on in India, experts have suggested that the third wave of infections is likely to decline by March. While several states including Maharashtra, Delhi and West Bengal have already begun to report a drop in their active caseload, others continue to see an uptick in cases. India’s active COVID-19 tally has now dropped to 14.35 lakh.
According to a top Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) official, the third wave is likely to wane by the end of this month in some parts of the country. As per a Times of India report quoting ICMR additional director-general Dr Samiran Panda, the peak of cases encountered in Maharashtra, Delhi and West Bengal states will “come down to the base level by the end of this month itself”.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Friday opined that the third wave of the pandemic might get over by the second or third week of March. The official cited daily case data to note that the infection curve was flattening in major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Raigad even as cases dipped from around 48,000 per day (a few weeks ago) to around 15,000 at present.
More to come…
