PM Modi meets prominent Sikhs
New Delhi: Just two days ahead of the Punjab Assembly Election on February 20 (Sunday), Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday met a delegation of Sikh leaders at his official residence here. The delegation of Sikh leaders to 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, was led by senior BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The reason behind the delegation’s meeting with the prime minister was immediately not clear.
It may be noted here that the BJP is fighting hard to perform well in the Punjab Assembly Elections. It has allied with former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who had quit the Congress last year and formed his own party, Punjab Lok Congress.
Pre-election surveys have said that the BJP alliance may not perform as per expectations in the Punjab Election 2022. One of the reasons being attributed to the possible poor performance of the BJP is the three contentious farm laws, which have now been withdrawn by the Centre. However, the year-long agitation that was held by farmers’ groups is believed to have dented the party’s chances in Punjab.
