Early Life

Vijay Rawat was born and raised in the Pauri town of Uttarakhand, India. The family of Vijay Rawat is serving the Indian Army for three generations. His father was a former Lieutenant-General of the Indian Army Staff who retired in 1988, and in 1951, his father was commissioned into 11 Gorkha Rifles. Vijay Rawat’s maternal grandfather was Kishan Singh Parmar who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uttarkashi.

Political Career

Vijay Rawat started his political career in 2022 after his retirement from the Indian Army. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 19 January 2022. Before joining the BJP, he attended a meeting with Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and he said in a media conference that the thoughts of his late brother Bipin Rawat matched the thoughts of Uttarakhand Chief Minister, which were directed for the welfare of the state. He said,

I like the Uttarakhand CM’s vision for the state. It matches what my brother had in his mind. BJP has the same mindset.”

  • In December 2021, Vijay Rawat’s elder brother Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat, along with the 10 other Indian Army personnel, were killed in a chopper crash that crashed due to the bad weather conditions in Tamil Nadu, India.
  • Bharat Singh Rawat is the paternal uncle of Vijay Rawat, and he is retired from the Indian Army as a Havaldar (non-commissioned officer). Harinandan is another uncle of Vijay Rawat who is also a retired Indian Army officer.

  • On 19 January 2022, during a media conference of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vijay Rawat stated that his father was associated with the BJP after his retirement, and Vijay Rawat was feeling grateful on receiving the same opportunity. He further continued that the visions of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were futuristic, and the thoughts of Modi were out of the box. He said,
    I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to join BJP. My father was with BJP after retiring and now I have gotten a chance. PM Modi’s vision and thinking are very wise and futuristic. PM Modi thinks out of the box and all his efforts are directed towards the country’s betterment.”
