64-year-old civilian killed, 24 others injured in Srinagar grenade attack

Photo : ANI(Byline: Suhail Bhat)Srinagar: A 64-year-old man was killed and 24 others including a cop sustained injuries in a grenade explosion near Amira Kadal Srinagar on Sunday.The attack took place near the Amira Kadal-HSHS area of Srinagar, police said. The area where this grenade explosion took place is a street vending market and had witnessed a heavy rush of people throughout the day.64-year-old Srinagar resident, who received critical injuries in this attack, was declared brought dead at SMHS Hospital by the doctors. He has been identified as Mohammad Ahsan Resident from Makhdoom Mandal Kalashpora Srinagar.Other civilians injured in this attack including a policeman were being treated. Soon after this attack, security forces cordoned off the area.DIG Central Kashmir, Sujit Kumar (IPS) and several other senior officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF also visited the spot. DIG Central Kashmir told the media that they have checked CCTVs, got vital leads. “Will take measures to prevent such attacks,” he saidSeveral political parties and politicians condemned the attack. “Condemn this dastardly attack. People of J&K have been paying with their lives & sadly neither India nor Pakistan are doing anything to end the conflict & stop this bloodshed. My prayers are with the bereaved families & loved ones,” former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter.Peoples Conference President and former Minister Sajad Gani Lone also condemned the attack. After this attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police asked citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
