‘A great conversationalist’: President Kovind, PM Modi pay tributes to industrialist Rahul Bajaj

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the demise of noted industrialist and Padma Bhushan awardee Rahul Bajaj who passed away at the age of 83 due to illness in Pune.

Bajaj was under treatment for cardiac and lung-related problems for the last one month, said Dr Parvez Grant, Chairman, Ruby Hall Clinic.

Expressed grief over his demise, President Kovind said Bajaj’s career reflected the rise and innate strength of the nation’s corporate sector and his death leaves a void in the world of industry.

“Saddened to learn of Shri Rahul Bajaj’s demise. A doyen of Indian industry, he was passionate about its priorities. His career reflected the rise and innate strength of the nation’s corporate sector. His death leaves a void in the world of industry. My condolences to his family (sic),” the President tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi also paid his tributes to the former chairman of the Bajaj Group calling him a great conversationalist.

The prime minister tweeted, “Shri Rahul Bajaj Ji will be remembered for his noteworthy contributions to the world of commerce and industry. Beyond business, he was passionate about community service and was a great conversationalist. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti (sic).”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the funeral of Rahul Bajaj will be held with full state honours.

The chief minister said the country had lost not just a great industrialist but someone who was very aware of his social responsibility and was vocal on issues faced by the country.
