‘Accidental Firing’, India Says Technical Glitch Behind Missile Landing in Pakistan; Probe Ordered

The central government said the missile was fired due to a “technical malfunction” in the course of routine maintenance.

A day after Pakistan claimed that an Indian missile had landed on its soil, the central government admitted that the missile was fired accidentally due to a “technical malfunction” and had landed in the neighbouring country. The government said it had taken serious note of this and ordered a high-level court of enquiry into the incident.The Centre on Friday issued a press release on the accidental firing of the missile on March 9. The statement read, “In the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile.”Calling the incident “deeply regrettable”, the government said there were, however, no casualties. It said, “It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan.
