BJP MLAs stage walkout as WB Finance Minister tables 3.21 lakh crore budget

Among others, the budget proposes an exemption from the registration fees and taxes for CNG and battery-operated vehicles for two years. The BJP MLAs staged a walkout as Bhattacharya tabled the budget in the state Assembly.West Bengal’s revenue receipts are pegged at Rs 1.98 lakh crore and the government plans to raise public debt for Rs 1.14 lakh crore. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee put on hold all the payments for March till the budget is approved. “Pay bill generation for March, 2022 is temporarily suspended till the Finance Budget 2022-23 of the Government of West Bengal,” the state government notification read on March 7.The BJP has been protesting against the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal over the poll violence in the state. The BJP MLAs, led by the leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari rushed to the well of the house and raised slogans against the government over violence during local body elections. The ruckus created by the opposition MLAs not only delayed Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s inaugural speech but also compelled him to only read the first and the last line of the speech.
