CBI starts probing murder of family member of erstwhile Princely State

  • CBI has re-registered a case of murder against unidentified suspects. The Chhattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur ordered the CBI to seize SIM card of deceased, all accused and suspects for further analysis.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation will now investigate the murder of Vishwanath Nair, nephew of the Rajmata of erstwhile Kawardha princely state in Chattisgarh. The case has been handed over to the CBI on the directions of the High Court of Chattisgarh at Bilaspur. 

Unhappy with the police investigation, the wife of the deceased, identified as Jyoti Nair, had approached the state high court.  Vishwanath Nair was brutally murdered on the intervening night of 26th August- 27th August at Yogeshwar Raj Agriculture House at Indori, police station Pipariya district Kabirdham Chattisgarh. 

Itwari Ram Kosale lodged an FIR against unidentified persons under sections following sections of the Indian Penal Code- murder (302), house trespass (452) and theft (380).  After completion of the probe, the station house officer of police station Pipariya filed two charge sheets in the case on 24th November 2021. 

The first chargesheet filed before a chief judicial magistrate was against Prem Lal Sinha for murder, trespassing and committing murder during dacoity. In the second four juveniles were apprehended and a report was submitted before Juvenile Justice Board. 

On the plea filed by Vishwanath Nair’s wife Jyoti Nair, the High Court of Chattisgarh directed a CBI investigation. The probe agency has been told to file, if necessary, an additional chargesheet. 

The CBI has also been asked to take over all case details and documents from the local police and SIM cards of accused, deceased, suspects for further analysis. In its order, the court asked the CBI to conduct a fair and independent probe.

“The facts and circumstances, mentioned in the FIR/Crime No. 0312/2021 of the said PS Pipariya disclose the commission of offences punishable u/s 302, 457 & 380 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860. Hence, in compliance with the aforesaid orders dated 10.01.2022 of the Hon’ble High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur, a Regular Case (RC) is registered against the Unknown Person u/s 302, 457 & 380 of IPC, 1860. The case is entrusted to Shri Rajesh Bhonsle, Inspector of Police, CBI, ACB, Chhattisgarh, Raipur (C.G.), for further investigation,” said the CBI FIR.
