Delhi: Cop’s daughter strangled, accused on the run

A Delhi Police personnel’s daughter was strangled to death, allegedly by her friend’s husband, in North Delhi. Investigators say the accused is on the run. The body of the woman, who was in her 20s, was found at the home of the accused.
DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said they were alerted to the incident at 7.56 pm on Friday. “The victim’s friend, who made the call, said that when she reached home in the evening, she found the woman lying on the bedroom floor. We have lodged an FIR of murder and further investigations are on,” Kalsi said.
Police said the accused used to work as an insurance agent, but lost his job around two months ago. His wife works at a shop. “The couple had taken a flat on rent,” a senior police officer said.
The victim, a graduate, was to get married on May 3. In her police complaint, her mother said the woman received a call on Friday afternoon from her friend’s husband.

“Around 4 pm, after the call, she told me that she was going to their home as he wanted to buy a saree for his wife as a Valentine’s Day gift and needed her help. My daughter and the woman have been friends since school,” she wrote.
“He came to pick her up on his motorbike… we saw him. Around 5 pm, I asked my younger daughter to call her as she had not returned, but her phone was switched off. We were worried since she never switches it off. We then started making calls to her friend, whose phone was also showing switched off,” she alleged.

“We came to know about the incident around 9.30 pm when we received a call from the police station and they asked us to come there. We were informed that she had been murdered by her friend’s husband,” she said.
Police said the victim’s father was out of town to distribute wedding invitations, and will return to Delhi tomorrow.
