Photo : PTINew Delhi: TheBhartiya Janata Party delivered a splendid performance in the latest round of the Assembly elections as the saffron party registered a thumping victory in four of the five states that went to polls. The much-awaited results of the Assembly polls in five states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur were announced on Monday. While the saffron party retained power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, the Congress could not even manage to register a victory in Punjab, one of the few states it held. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ousted the Congress from the state, marking its first big win outside its Delhi turf. In Uttarakhand, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh, the BJP stormed back to power for the second successive term, while the party got the support of people of Goa for the third consecutive term.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the BJP’s emphatic win in four state polls underscore people’s stamp of strong approval for its government’s pro-poor and pro-active governance.
