Hyderabad: Film Nagar is getting more, well, filmy.
From the recent film camera and clapperboard sculpture to newer ones that depict scenes from classic movies and also sculptures similar to renowned global artworks, the road from Film Nagar towards Kotha Cheruvu is all set to sport a new look and feel.

The long and wide road, with a quite sharp slope from the Film Nagar side before slanting up before reaching the Shaikpet side, is already known for the colourful Misaal Hyderabad artwork on the walls of houses in the slum on the roadside.
One of the sculptures that are coming up is inspired by the bronze sculptures in London’s Leicester Square, depicting different silver screen icons, and has the character of Don Lockwood from the 1952 musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, portrayed by Gene Kelly and is complete with an umbrella and swinging on a lamppost.
Another one is a replica of the ‘De Vaartkapoen’ sculpture from Belgium, showing a police officer being tripped up by a man hiding in a drain. The original was created in 1985 by Tom Frantzen.
Then, apart from the reel, film camera and clapperboard sculpture, there is one of two men engaged in a fencing bout, seemingly inspired by classics such as ‘The Mark of Zorro’ which had a famed sword duel between Diego and Captain Esteban.
These works are being executed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at an estimated cost of Rs.11 lakh.
With Film Nagar and its vicinity being home for many Telugu movie actors, film studios and production houses, the urban biodiversity wing of the civic body has selected the theme of movies to beautify the stretch, a GHMC official said. The civic body is also beautifying the central median by developing greenery and illuminating it.
“Plans are underway to light up the central median and install colourful illumination around the sculptures to further enhance the beauty during the night,” officials said.
