Hyderabad: Plantations and lake edge improvements are underway at the Langer Houz lake in Karwan constituency. The plan is to make the place a recreation facility by developing walking tracks and lush greenery around the water body.
“We will deck the place by illuminating it apart from providing amenities which include seating arrangements,” a GHMC official said.

The lake that was in pathetic condition, covered with water hyacinth and garbage has already been rejuvenated with the water body turning free of hyacinth. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was able to complete the job in 15 days and around 12 tons of water hyacinth was removed, following which lake edge improvements are being taken up.
The GHMC Entomology wing is taking up anti larval activities at the lake.
“Drones were also used to spray chemicals in the lake, all measures are being taken to keep the mosquito population under control at the lake and its vicinities,” GHMC Chief Entomologist Ram Babu said.
In addition to the lake, the HUDA Park located adjacent to it will also be developed.
“Over three lakh people living in 40 colonies in the vicinity of the lake will benefit from the rejuvenated water body and the park,” a GHMC official said.
The revival of the lake began after a citizen reported the issue to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao through Twitter, with the Minister in turn directing Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi to inspect the water body. The Mayor adopted the water body and also supervised the revival process. Review meetings were held and field visits were made by her to give the lake a new lease of life.
