Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao came under sharp criticism from the BJP after he skipped Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reception at the airport on Saturday.

Criticising the CM’s absence at the airport, the BJP said that Rao failed to follow the protocol and “insulted the Prime Minister”.

PM Modi arrived here this afternoon to inaugurate the ‘Statue of Equality’ commemorating the 11th century Bhakti saint Sri Ramanujacharya and to kickstart the 50th anniversary celebrations of ICRISAT.

The Prime Minister was received by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav at the airport.

Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar said it was “shameful” on the part of the CM for playing truant to the visit of PM Modi by citing lame excuses.

“It is very much evident that the chief minister does not want to show his face to the Prime Minister, as the entire country was abhorring his filthy abuses hurled at the latter,” he said.

“Mr KCR, Is this your culture? You claim to have read 80,000 books. Is it what you have learnt from them,” he asked.

The BJP leader also said that insulting the Prime Minister is equal to insulting the entire nation, adding that the Chief Minister was afraid of facing PM Modi after hurling so many abuses.

As per sources at Pragati Bhavan, the Chief Minister skipped PM Modi’s reception as he “is suffering from fever”.
