Srinagar, J&K: Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting to review the COVID-19 situation and vaccination drive in the Union Territory amid Omicron threat.

In a series of tweets, L-G Sinha said he reviewed the COVID-19 status, Omicron variant, vaccination for 15-18 age group, and preparedness of health infrastructure during the meeting, which was among others attended by the Covid Task Force, deputy commissioners (DCs), and superintendents of police (SPs) of all the districts.

“In view of the new variant and rise in the cases across the country, functioning of oxygen plants, availability of requisite medicines, audit of ICU and oxygen supported beds across all UT’s hospitals to be ensured,” he tweeted after the meeting.

The Lt Governor further stated that the DCs and Health officials will ensure infrastructure beginning from the Panchayat Level is strengthened and optimally utilised.

“Health teams in the districts to focus on prompt contact tracing, audit of oxygen cylinders and concentrators as well as availability and functioning of ventilators,” Sinha added.

COVID situation in Jammu and Kashmir

As many as 169 fresh coronavirus cases were recorded in the Union Territory on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 3,41,459, as per the health officials. The death toll in J&K has surged to 4,530 as two more people succumbed to the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, they said.

Of the fresh cases, 68 were reported from the Jammu division and 101 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, they said. Srinagar district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 48, followed by 34 in Jammu district.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 1,397. So far, 3,35,532 patients have recovered from the viral disease, the officials said.
