Imphal: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) Supremo Conrad Sangma has claimed that the NPP workers have been targeted amid the pre-poll violence in Manipur.

Conrad Sangma met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur following allegations of attacks against the NPP candidates. “Yesterday evening (February 18), there has been an attack in the Andro constituency and the campaigner’s father sustained injuries. This is not the first time NPP workers have been attacked. We have repeatedly informed the election commision and even met the CEO and the other officials of the ECI. We have asked them to ensure that no such incidents happen like this and ensure that additional security is provided,” said Conrad Sangma.

National People’s Party candidate in Manipur’s Andro constituency, L. Sanjoy Singh’s father Shamjai Singh had been allegedly shot by unknown miscreants last night. He was campaigning at Yaripok Yambeem Leikai. Conrad K Sangma CMO Meghalaya NPP Manipur National People’s Party has visited the patient on February 19.

As per highly placed sources, pre-poll violence in Yaripok last night has damaged houses and vehicles including injuring six.

The NPP had earlier alleged that abuse is being exercised in a targeted manner by several militant outfits in Manipur against the party and its candidates in different constituencies.

In a statement shared with Times Now, the NPP claimed that in 55-Tipaimukh AC, the cadres of militant outfits HPC (D) is moving around with arms intimidating the voters and village chiefs to vote for BJP candidates. The underground groups such as KNA and UKLF under Suspension of Operation (SOO) have threatened party workers and village chiefs.
