Officials clear footpath encroachments in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: In the wake of a ghastly road accident wherein four persons died in Karimnagar town on Sunday, the district administration on Monday began efforts to clear footpath encroachments in the town.
BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, who conducted a meeting with corporators and officials in the morning, said that a committee led by Additional Collector Garima Agarwall was constituted to remove footpath encroachments.
Within a few hours, the committee started its functioning. Collector RV Karnan and Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana along with committee members toured different places of the town to examine footpath encroachments. They visited Alugunur, Geetabhavan, Ramnagar, SRR College, Aadarshanagar and Clock tower areas and asked roadside vendors to vacate footpaths immediately.

As part of the Smart City scheme, extensive roads and footpaths were developed in the town.
Footpaths were meant for pedestrians, and four persons died in a road accident that took place near Kaman chowk on Sunday as makeshift shops were set up on roads. It was necessary to keep the footpath empty if such road accidents should not be repeated in the future.
People of the town were facing severe hardships to move on the roads as some of the small traders, pushcart owners, vegetable and fruit vendors were continuing sales on footpaths, he opined and asked roadside vendors to vacate footpaths immediately. Otherwise, serious action would be taken, he warned.
CP Satyanarayana warned to register criminal cases against traders if anybody was continuing business by occupying footpaths. Asking vendors to vacate footpaths, he said that special teams constituted by the district administration would vacate them.
Additional collector Garima Agarwal, Municipal Commissioner Sevla Islawath, RDO Anand Kumar, Tahsildhar Sudhakar and others participated in the programme.
