Asifabad: A worker of Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) Limited, Kaghaznagar, was mowed down by a truck carrying cement-concrete machine on the premises of the paper manufacturer on Tuesday.
Employees of the company staged a dharna seeking safety on Wednesday. Kaghaznagar police said the deceased Anand Kumar Dixit, 53, was a permanent worker from the beater house department at the mill and resident of Tipper Line colony in the town.
Dixit sustained severe head injuries when the truck dashed him while he was leaving the department following completion of his duties at around 3 pm, resulting in instantaneous death for him. Some colleagues alerted the management and police about the same. Then, the body was shifted to a hospital in Sipur (T) town for post-mortem.

Based on a complaint received from the victim’s wife, a case was registered and investigations has been taken up. Meanwhile, trade unions demanded a comprehensive probe into the accidents caused at SPM.
Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district vice president Munjam Anand Kumar alleged that the management of the paper manufacturer was showing negligence in taking safety measures and preventing mishaps. He wanted compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of the victim.
