Operation Smile by Cyberabad Police brings cheer to 223 children

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police rescued 223 children including 39 girls in a fortnight from January 1 to 15 during the ‘Operation Smile – VIII’ drive.
The police had formed Operation Smile teams in the three zones which will work throughout the year to rescue children from child labour, begging, rag picking, etc.
According to the police, of the children rescued, 45 were sent to the rescue homes and 178 children were handed over to their parents. Of them, 200 children were rescued from child labour, 14 from begging, and 2 from rag-picking.
Hyderabad Newsclick here for more Hyderabad NewsAmong these children, many belong to other States including Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
A total of 26 cases were registered against the persons using children for labour and begging, and 5 children from the street.
The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and later sent to various shelter homes.
