Amritsar: Ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, Congress state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu launched a scathing attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) calling their leaders two sides of the same coin.

Appealing to voters of Punjab, Sidhu said if the change has to be brought then vote for this man, referring to himself.

“Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal are two sides of the same coin. Choosing Captain or the Badals would be a retrograde step. If change has to be brought, this man (referring to himself) is in front of you with a plan,” ANI quoted Sidhu as saying during a press conference in Amritsar.

Earlier on Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had campaigned for Navjot Singh Sidhu in Amritsar. SAD has fielded Bikram Singh Majithia against Sidhu, the Congress MLA from Amritsar East.

Channi was warmly greeted by the people of Amritsar East Assembly constituency, claimed Congress supporters. This comes amid the reports of a rift between Punjab CM and Sidhu following Channi being named as the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

Punjab will vote in a single phase on February 20 to elect the new government in the border state and the results will be declared on March 10, as per the Election Commission of India’s schedule.

This time, the main contest is seen between the ruling Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In the previous assembly polls, Congress won an absolute majority in the state by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government after 10 years in power.
