Puvvada cautions travel operators against collecting high fares

Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar cautioned private bus operators against collecting additional charges from passengers in view of Sankranti festival rush.
He informed that special teams have been formed to check violations by travel operators who were running inter-State bus services. Officials were told to take serious action if any of the operators were found carrying more than the permitted number of passengers in their buses or collecting high fares in violation of government regulations.
The inspections would continue till Jan 17. The official teams have been conducting random inspections in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and other districts. So far cases booked against 62 buses for violating RTA norms, the Minister said in a statement here on Friday.
Hyderabad Newsclick here for more Hyderabad NewsFor the past four days, the department officials have also found many violations by travel operators such as non-payment of tax, non-receipt of fitness certificates, non-compliance with safety standards and transportation of goods. Fines were imposed for such violations, he added.
