Photo : PTINew Delhi: Peeved over not being made the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, senior Congress leader and MLC CM Ibrahim on Saturday quit the party and the post, saying that he had written several letters to party chief Sonia Gandhi over the past 12 years highlighting “several grievances” of the party. “From the past 12 years in my several letters addressed to you. I had placed before you several grievances of the party and you have indeed replied that you will take the necessary remedial measures. But so far, I don’t see any changes,” he said in his resignation letter. Ibrahim, a former Union Minister and one-time close associate of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, had joined Congress in 2008, and had been sulking for some time now, upset with the party and Congress Legislature Party leaderSiddaramaiah. “I tender my resignation front the primary membership of the party with immediate effect. I am also forwarding my resignation letter to the membership of the Karnataka Legislative Council addressed to the Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council through Siddaramaiah, Leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Kindly accept my resignation & oblige,” his letter read. Ibrahim was miffed with the appointment of “most junior member” BK Hariprasad as the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, the post which he was eyeing. The post of Leader of Opposition in the Council had fallen vacant following the retirement of SR Patil, in January, on completion of his tenure as MLC. “Madam ji, in the Karnataka Legislative Council, if elections would had been held to select the opposition leader or if an opinion had been taken from all our party MLC’s then I would have been definitely elected since 18 members were supporting me, but the party selected Mr BK Hari Prased, the most junior member as the opposition leader in the Legislative Council,” he said in his letter to Gandhi. The disgruntled leader further said that despite being a senior leader in the party, he could not speak to Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi directly. “Whenever I have raised some bask questions regarding the functioning and development of the party, 1 have not received proper response. Being a senior leader in the party, I could not speak to you or Rahul Gandhi directly and place the facts before you, but it has to routed through the In-charge General Secretaries and it is well-known to you how they respond which I do not want to elaborate,” he added.
