Karimnagar: At least six students from erstwhile Karimangar district are stranded in Ukraine after Russia started military operation on Thursday, leaving parents in a state of anxiety.
Students from various parts of erstwhile Karimnagar district are in Ukraine to pursue medicine and a majority of them are in Zaporozhye State Medical University. Three students from Karimnagar district including Kadari Sumanjali of Ramachandrapur, Jali Pranay Kumar Reddy of Gopalraopet, Ramadugu mandal and Manasa of Keshavapatnam are stranded, besides Baddam Niharika Reddy of Rampur, Malial mandal and Thumula Bhavani of Metpalli of Jagtial district and Sherisha of Godavarikhani of Peddapalli district is also stranded.

Sumanjali, who sent a voice message to her family members, informed them that she was stranded outside the airport. As university authorities left the choice to students to return home, she along with her friends Ramyasri, N Srinidhi and Likitha rushed to the airport from the hostel. The airport, however, was closed by the time they reached the spot, and hence they could neither go back to the hostel nor enter the airport.
Sumanjali’s brother, Swamy met Karimnagar MP and BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and requested him to take steps to bring his sister back safely. The MP, who spoke to embassy officials over phone, assured that he would help in bringing back all the stranded students from the State safely.
Pranay Kumar released a selfie video stating that all the students from India as well as local civilians were safe in Ukraine since no attacks or explosions had taken place so far. Zaporozhye University and Neo Consultancy authorities are in touch with embassy officials and updating the same to students. If there was any emergency, they were ready to airlift the students, he said.
Metpalli girl Niharika Reddy spoke to her parents over phone and informed them that all the 1,500 students staying in the university were safe.
