Srinagar: A terrorist was gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
“One terrorist has been neutralised in the encounter that broke out in the Kilbal area of Shopian district. Operation is underway,” said Kashmir Zone Police.
Based on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Kilbal area of the south Kashmir’s district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.
The terrorists opened fire at the forces while they were conducting searches, a police official said.
The forces retaliated and the encounter broke out, the official said, PTI reported.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist are yet to be ascertained.
The operation is underway.
