Third wave of COVID-19 continues to grip Delhi, West Bengal, UP, Kerala – State-wise coronavirus count today

New Delhi: Several states, including Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and others continue to record a spurt in COVID-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant. The daily surge in coronavirus infections continues even as several states have imposed COVID restrictions to contain the outbreak. Alarmed by the massive spike in COVID infections, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday interacted with specialist doctors to discuss the pandemic situation and listen to their suggestions.

Statewide COVID-19 count

Delhi

Delhi recorded a staggering 21,259 COVID-19 cases on January 11. The positivity rate rose to 25.65 per cent in the national capital. Twenty-three coronavirus patients succumbed since January 10, according to data shared by the health department.

Kerala

Kerala logged a steep rise in the fresh COVID-19 cases with the state registering 9,066 new infections. The southern state which was badly affected during the second wave of coronavirus pandemic reported 296 deaths which took the total death count over the 50,000-mark.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh registered 11,089 fresh COVID-19 cases and five more deaths. Meerut, Moradabad, Kanpur, Gonda and Azamgarh recorded each coronavirus death. As per the official statement, 543 more COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection.

Karnataka

Karnataka registered 14,473 new COVID cases and five deaths today. The active cases stand at 73,260. The COVID positivity rate was recorded at 10.30 per cent in Karnataka.

West Bengal

West Bengal has been hit hard during the third wave of COVID. The state registered 21,098 fresh coronavirus cases and 19 deaths. The Active cases stand at 1,02,236, while the Positivity rate was reported at 32.35 per cent.

Haryana

Haryana clocked 5,746 fresh COVID cases and three deaths today. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.36 per cent. Notably, 26 new Omicron cases were reported in the state.

Mumbai

Mumbai registered 11,647 fresh COVD cases and two deaths. As of the latest official data, the Maharashtra capital has 1,00,523 active cases. The death toll in Mumbai has increased to 16,413. The recovery rate was recorded at 87 per cent.

Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir reported 1,148 new coronavirus infections. Of the total cases, 640 were reported from Jammu and 508 from Kashmir in the last 24 hours. The Active cases in the UT were recorded at 4,810. As per the official data, 360 COVID patients recovered from the disease.

Goa

Goa reported 2,476 new coronavirus cases and 4 four deaths today. The active caseload stands at 12,019. The recovery rate in the coastal state was recorded at 91.98 per cent. 1,78,421 COVUD patients have recovered in Goa so far.

Telangana

Telangana registered 1,920 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 6, 97,775, while the fatality count increased to 4,045 with two more fatalities. The number of active increased to 16,496, the bulletin said.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan clocked 6,366 fresh Covid cases and four fatalities, pushing the tally of infections to 9,88,638 and the death toll to 8,978.
