New Delhi: Shortly after the Union Budget 2022 was presented in the Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi crossed the well of the Lok Sabha and met the leaders of Opposition parties. Among leaders PM Narendra Modi interacted with included – Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Saugata Roy, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham’s A Raja among others.

Interestingly, when the PM came to meet him, TMC MP Saugata Roy told him that West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was ‘creating a lot of disturbance’. In response, PM reportedly asked Roy when will he retire.

“When will you retire?” PM Modi asked Roy, news agency ANI reported. The light-hearted conversation was followed by laughter.

Mamata ‘blocks’ Jagdeep Dhankhar on Twitter

The BJP and TMC fought bitterly during the West Bengal Assembly elections and have locked horns over various issues including the farm laws, Citizenship Amendment Act, and National Register of Citizens (NRC). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Monday, blocked Dhankhar on the microblogging site Twitter for his ‘unethical and unconstitutional’ statements.

“I have blocked the governor from my Twitter account. I had no option. I am sorry about this. (I blocked him) Because I used to get irritated seeing his (governor’s) tweet every day. In his tweets, he used to speak in a way that is not humane. He will tweet every day, abuse officials, and sometimes abuse and accuse me. He does these things by speaking in an abusive, unethical, and unconstitutional way,” Banerjee said.

In response to Banerjee’s action, Dhankhar said that dialogue and harmony were the essence and spirit of democracy and the mandate of the Indian constitution.
