Huntington Beach police shoot man accused of shooting another person


A man accused of shooting another person was shot in turn by Huntington Beach police officers Monday afternoon on the grass strip above Sunset Beach, authorities confirmed. Officers, responding to reports of a shooting at 12:20 p.m., arrived near South Pacific Avenue and 3rd Street and found an armed man who they suspected to be the assailant in the earlier gun incident, the department said in a tweet.At least one officer opened fire, striking the armed man, Carey said. Police found the victim of the earlier shooting “a few blocks north” of the police gunfire location, said Jennifer Carey, a Huntington Beach police spokeswoman. Department officials said in a later tweet that both wounded people were taken to the hospital. As of Monday night, the man who police shot was in critical condition and the other wounded person was in stable condition, Carey said. Authorities said there was no threat to public safety and that no officers were injured.
