Noida: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav is set to break his ‘Noida jinx’ by visiting the city on Thursday. He was slated to visit Noida on Thursday evening. The last time he had visited Noida was in 2011. Talking to reporters in Bulandshahr, Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence that he will be forming a government in 2022.

“There is another saying related to Noida is that if a party goes for the campaign in Noida then it wins the Uttar Pradesh elections. Last time, I visited Noida in 2011 and then formed the government in 2012,” Yadav said.

The Noida jinx refers to a political taboo in Uttar Pradesh politics, wherein it is believed that if a sitting chief minister visits Noida, then he/ she does not come to power in a consecutive term. Incumbent Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already broken the taboo by visiting Noida on multiple occasions.

During one of his visits to Noida, Adityanath had said that, unlike previous chief ministers, he had been visiting Noida for carrying out development work. He has expressed confidence that the good work carried out by his government would be recognized by the people of the city who will give a mandate to the BJP.

How did the ‘Noida jinx’ come into existence?

The Noida jinx reportedly came into existence after Vir Bahadur Singh, ND Tiwari, Kalyan Singh, and Mayawati lost polls after reportedly visiting Noida. During his tenure as chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav did not visit Noida for the inauguration of development projects.

The 403-seater Uttar Pradesh Assembly goes to the polls in seven phases between February 10 to March 7. Counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2022 will take place on March 10.
