New Delhi: Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General Manoj Pande on Friday said that the force is working on building a credible and balanced force posture to fight in a multidimensional war in view of future conflicts.

“To build capabilities and capacities to fight in a multidimensional war, the Army is involved in modernising keeping future conflicts in mind. The Army is building a credible and balanced force posture, to deter escalation towards an armed conflict,” ANI quoted Lt Gen Pande as saying during an event.

Lt Gen Pande further stated that the Army needs to shed the classic war and peace disposition and enhance inter-agency cohesion. “In fact, a critical need for all organs of the State, to work in unison towards the National Objective, has been the core takeaway of the past year,” he said.

“We also need to address social media, in order to evaluate the rise of current and emerging trends and arrive at measures to counter information and influence operations, with a focus on perception change and policy safeguards,” the Army Vice Chief added.

His remarks come a day after Army Chief General MM Naravane said India is witnessing trailers of future conflicts and its adversaries will continue with efforts to achieve their strategic aims.

India is facing “unique, substantial and multi-domain” security challenges and developments on the northern borders have adequately underscored the requirement of ready and capable forces, the Army chief had said on Thursday in an address at an online seminar.

K-9 howitzers in central, eastern LAC sectors

Meanwhile, the Indian Army is now planning to deploy K-9 Vajra howitzers in the high altitude mountains in the central and eastern sector of the line of actual control with China.

“The trials of the guns have been very successful and now the plan is to order 200 more of these howitzers and deploy them in the high altitude mountainous region in the central sector including Uttarakhand and eastern sector including Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in areas where armoured vehicles can be moved swiftly,” ANI quoted government sources as saying.

Earlier, the Army successfully deployed and tested the K-9 Vajra Howitzers in the Ladakh sector.
