After poll debacle, Congress president Sonia Gandhi sacks PCC chiefs of 5 states, including Navjot Singh Sidhu

Sonia Gandhi | Credit: Reuters New Delhi: After drubbing in the recently concluded Assembly polls, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked the party’s state unit chiefs in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur to tender their resignations. Those who have been asked to resign include Navjot Singh Sidhu (Punjab), Ganesh Godiyal (Uttarakhand), Nameirakpam Loken Singh (Manipur), Ajay Kumar Lallu (UP) and Girish Chodankar (Goa). The development comes two days after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) discussed the reasons behind the party’s debacle in these Assembly polls. The Congress failed to win in any of the states and lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “Congress President, Smt. The CWC in its statement said that the recent Assembly election results of five states are a cause of serious concern for Congress.
