Thiruvananthapuram: Two days into the poll results from the five states where the Congress party was not able to put up a strong fight against the BJP, Kerala KPCC president K Sudhakaran has warned the party workers and office-bearers who had hit out at the party leadership on social media platforms. Sudhakaran reminded that strict actions will be initiated against such moves that ‘demoralises’ the grand old party.”There is a campaign and hate speech ongoing in the state against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi following the election results. This is being monitored by KPCC,” he said.”The Congress leadership will look into the reasons which led to the poll debacle and make the necessary changes. Publically making statements on social media will only make the party weaker. Activists should recognize this and refrain from such acts,” Sudhakaran added. The Kerala Congress chief’s statement comes on a day when there was a backlash against the party leadership, especially against KC Venugopal, who is considered to be the ‘advisor’ to Rahul Gandhi during his political campaigns in the election rallies in the 5 states. The anger and resentment within the party circles and social media groups were reflected in public when posters were found pasted at the entrance of the Congress office in Kannur where it blamed KC Venugopal for the party’s poor performance. It read –“Wishing good luck for KC Venugopal after ensuring the party has lost in 5 states. It’s time he was given a suitcase and asked to leave the office”.Congress party chief’s statement had come after the incident at the ‘Indira Bhavan” in Sreekandapuram in Kannur which is the hometown of KC Venugopal. However, none of the senior Congress leaders in Kerala has demanded a change in leadership apart from Shashi Tharoor who was vocal and critical of the grand old party’s electoral performance in the recently concluded elections.
