Career

As a Child Actor

In 1974, he debuted as a child actor in the Telugu film ‘Alluri Seetaramar Telugaju’ in which he played the role of young Alluri Seetaramaraju.

He then acted in the Telugu films like ‘Dongalaku Donga’ (1977), ‘Manushulu Chesina Dongalu’ (1977), and ‘Annadammula Saval’ (1978). At the age of 14, Ramesh, along with his younger brother Mahesh, appeared in the Telugu film ‘Needa.’

As a Lead Actor

After taking a break from acting, he played the lead role in the Telugu film ‘Samraat’ in which he played the title role.

He then acted in various Telugu films like ‘Bazaar Rowdy’ (1988), ‘Mugguru Kodukulu’ (1988), ‘Krishna Gaari Abbayi’ (1989), and ‘Kaliyuga Abhimanyudu’ (1990). After appearing in the Telugu film ‘Encounter’ in 1997, he quit acting and ventured into film production.

As a Producer

Ramesh Babu worked as an executive producer in the Hindi film ‘Sooryavansham’ (1999). Later, he started a film production company ‘Krishna Productions Private Ltd’ in Hyderabad after his father’s name. Some of the Telugu films produced by Ramesh Babu are ‘Arjun’ (2004), ‘Athidhi’ (2007), ‘Dookudu’ (2011), and ‘Aagadu’ (2014).

Death

On 8 January 2022, he took his last breath at AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. He was suffering from prolonged liver-related ailments. Ramesh Babu’s film production company ‘GMB Entertainment,’ confirmed the news of his demise through Twitter. The tweet reads,
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu garu. He will continue to live in our hearts forever. In light of the current circumstances, we request all our well-wishers to adhere to the Covid-19 norms and avoid gathering at the cremation venue.”
Various South Indian celebrities shared their grief on his demise. The veteran South Indian actor Chiranjeevi tweeted,
My heartfelt condolences to Shri Krishna garu, @urstrulyMahesh and all the family members. May the Almighty give strength to the family to cope with the tragic loss.”
Actor Sai Dharam Tej tweeted,
Saddened to know about the untimely passing on of Shri. #GhattamaneniRameshBabu garu.”
