After Congress, BJP rushes senior ministers to Uttarakhand ahead of poll results

Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya sent to Uttarakhand ahead of poll resultsNew Delhi: Ahead of the results for Uttarakhand Assembly elections 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rushed senior leaders such as Kailash Vijayvargiya, Ramesh Pokhriyal, and Pralhad Joshi to Uttarakhand. The move comes a day before the results of Assembly elections in the hill state. While exit polls have projected a clear victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh and AAP in Punjab, in Uttarakhand, it could be a close contest between the BJP and Congress. An indecisive mandate is also likely in Goa. A Times Now-Veto poll has projected that the BJP may bag 37 seats in the 70-seater Uttarakhand Assembly, while Congress is not too far behind at 31. It may be noted that the halfway mark in Uttarakhand is 35 and a party of alliance bagging 36 seats can form a government in the state. The Congress party has already sent MP Deepender Singh Hooda to Uttarakhand as an observer to take calls after the results. Senior Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram has also been tasked to engage with smaller political parties to stitch last-minute alliances in case of hung Assemblies. The swift maneuvers by political parties may be viewed on the backdrop of previous elections where the counting of votes delivered fractured mandates. In 2017 in Goa, for instance, the Congress party could not form a government despite being the single largest party. Results for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, and Manipur Assembly elections will be declared on Thursday.
