Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, said on Monday that the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections will determine the history of the country in the next century and called on people to defeat negative politics.

Akhilesh Yadav later filed his nomination papers for the Karhal Assembly seats in front of a large crowd of supporters. With thousands cheering him, Akhilash left his Saifai home in his ‘rath’. The crowd grew as his vehicle approached Karhal.

Barricades were erected by the district administration near the collectorate to stop the supporters.

“My nomination is a mission,” Akhilesh tweeted.

It is the first time he is running for an Assembly Election in the state. The people are excited because they are preparing for a big change in the state, said Yadav.

“This ‘nomination’ is a ‘mission’ as this UP election will write the country’s history for the next century. Let’s take part in this movement of positive politics with progressive thinking? Defeat negative politics, remove it too. Jai Hind!” tweeted Akhilesh Yadav earlier today.

Additionally, he shared a picture of him leaving his native place Saifai in Etawah on the Samajwadi Vijay Rath bus for Mainpuri.

Karhal will vote on February 20 in the third of seven phases of elections in the state.

While talking to media later, Akhilesh Yadav said, “First of all, I want to thank the people of Mainpuri and the people of the organisation, who have given me a chance that today I am nominated from Karhal for contesting the elections. I am going to do it.”

“Positive politics has been carried forward and I hope the people of Uttar Pradesh will remove those who do negative politics in this election. Therefore, I appeal to the people to give opportunity to the SP not only in Karhal but in every area. The party will take the state on the path of development, prosperity and progress,” he said.

The constituency has been with the SP since 1993, except for the 2002 assembly polls. In the 2002 election, sitting MLA Sobaran Singh ran on a BJP ticket, but then joined the SP and won three times.

Karhal has a total electorate of about 3.7 lakhs, including 1.4 lakh Yadavs (37 per cent), 34,000 Shakhyas (OBCs) and about 14,000 Muslims.
