New Delhi: A senior doctor at Delhi hospital has said that children and adolescents aged 11 to 17 years are complaining of common symptoms like high fever and shivering after contracting COVID-19.

Dr Dhiren Gupta, Paediatric Pulmonologist at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, further said that infants under two years of age are also developing the same symptoms and some of them even require hospitalisation.

He also said that infants under two years of age are at high risk of contracting the virus, adding that the severity of the infection in adults is lesser as compared to that of Delta variant of coronavirus.

“I have treated around nine infants infected with COVID-19, of which one required ventilation support. As is the case with other patients, infants required hospitalisation because of high-grade fever,” he told ANI.

“As per my experience, babies with less than two years of age belong to a high-risk group and the infection severity in them is almost same as that of Delta variant. While those in the age bracket of 11- 18 years are having more symptoms but their case is not as severe as that of the Delta,” he added.

The vaccination of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years started on January 3. However, those below the age of 15 are yet not eligible to be vaccinated.
