New Delhi: A day after former Union law minister Ashwani Kumar resigned from Congres, MP Manish Tewari posted a cryptic tweet criticising the grand old party.

In his tweet, the Congress MP wrote a couplet of famous poet Bashir Badr: “Mei bolta hun to ilzam hai bagawat ka, mei chup rahun toh badi bebasi si hoti hai (If I speak, the charge is of rebellion, if I keep quiet then it is very helpless)”.

Tewari on Wednesday said there may be some truth in what Ashwani Kumar wrote in his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the same concerns have been raised by G23 leaders in 2020.

He is considered a part of the G-23, a group of dissenting Congress leaders who have demanded organisational overhaul.

Tewari’s remarks came after Kumar resigned from Congress breaking his 46-year-long association with the grand old party, saying he can best serve national causes outside the party fold.

The Anandpur Sahib MP said the resignation of Kumar “was a matter of great concern for most of us”.

“He is a good person, a very good lawyer who has excellent arguments. Something may be true in what he has said in his resignation letter. These concerns were brought to the notice of the party high command by the G23 group in 2020. But his eye is on a Rajya Sabha seat,” PTI quoted Tewari as saying.

Tewari slams Jakhar ahead of Punjab polls

He also slammed former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar said that those raking up the Hindu-Sikh issue in the state are playing in the hands of Pakistan’s ISI.

The people in the state have never resorted to sectarian politics and they believe in “Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat”, Tewari said.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10, as per the Election Commission of India.
