New Delhi: The controversy over the Republic Day tableau for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose could have been avoided, opined the freedom fighter’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose on Tuesday.

He also confirmed that the Central government has accepted the R-Day tableau proposal of the West Bengal government.

While speaking to Times Now, Chandra Kumar Bose said, “I sent the proposal to Narendra Modi ji about ten days back

and I did not get any immediate response from his office.”

“So, I was wondering whether my proposal on having the tableau on Netaji and the Indian National Army on January 26 at Rajpath has been accepted or not.”

“I enquired the day before yesterday and I was told by defence ministry officials that there would be a tableau on Netaji and the INA because we are celebrating Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary as well,” he asserted.

Talking about the letter West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote to PM Modi over reports of rejecting the tableau, Bose said, “Between my sending of the proposal and receiving the confirmation, this controversy broke out. This could have been avoided.”

Earlier on Sunday, expressing shock over the Centre’s decision to exclude West Bengal’s tableau, which was set to highlight contributions of freedom fighters, from the upcoming Republic Day Parade in Delhi, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to PM Modi urging him to reconsider the decision as people of the state would be “pained” by the move.

Banerjee also said that no reason was cited for the tableau’s rejection.

The proposed tableau was set to commemorate the contributions of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his INA on his 125th birth anniversary year, the CM said.
