Fresh advisory for Indians in Ukraine

Passengers wait at the platform inside Lviv railway stationPhoto : APNew Delhi: Amidst the ongoing Russian offensive in Ukraine, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv on Monday said special trains have been arranged by Ukraine for evacuations and all students are advised to reach the railway station for onward journey to the western parts of the war-torn country. In a fresh advisory, the embassy also requested the students to “not exhibit aggressive behaviour while at the railway station.” “Weekend curfew lifted in Kyiv. All students are advised to make their way to the railway station for onward journey to the western parts. Ukraine Railways is putting special trains for evacuations,” the advisory read. The embassy said that for students stranded on the left side of Dnipro, there are metros and buses functioning which can be used to move to the train station for onward movement. India has so far evacuated more than 2,000 of its citizens from Ukraine and over 1,000 of them have been brought back home on chartered flights from Hungary and Romania under its evacuation mission ‘Operation Ganga’.India has been shifting its citizens from the conflict zones to the country’s western region for their subsequent evacuation through Hungary, Romania, Poland and Slovakia. – all nations which share border with Ukraine.The stranded Indians are currently being evacuated through the land routes as Ukraine has closed its airspace for civilian aircraft following the Russian attack. “We sincerely request all Indian nationals/students to remain calm, peaceful and united. Indian students are requested to carry their passport, sufficient cash, ready to eat meals, easy accessible winter clothing and only essential items, to ensure easy mobility,” it said, urging them be mindful of their belongings at all times.

You are all requested to respect this sentiment,” it said.Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Sunday said the main concern for India is ensuring the safety of its nationals stuck in areas witnessing intense fighting including in Kyiv that has around 2,000 Indians.
