Panaji: Ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his promise to restart iron ore mining saying that he doesn’t know anything about the matter.

“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi doesn’t know anything about the mining case. He should first study the subject,” ANI quoted the Goa chief minister as saying.

Former Congress president had on Friday said the iron ore mining in Goa will be resumed as soon as the grand old party comes to power in the state after the assembly elections.

“Everyone can see unemployment in Goa. The state of tourism and mining sectors can be seen by everyone today. We have a plan to rejuvenate the tourism industry. We plan to sustain mining and restart it in a legal way,” Gandhi said during a press conference at Goa’s Margao.

Meanwhile, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal attacked both BJP and Congress saying that the two parties have an agreement to fill their coffers in alternate terms.

“The Congress governed for 27 years, while the BJP ruled for 15 years. If people give them five more years, nothing will change. There are two types of politics — on the one hand, you have the politics of the Congress and the BJP, who run businesses and fill their coffers with the tax money paid by the people. On the other hand, you have the politics of AAP, which is spending the tax money paid by the people for development purposes. Give AAP one chance,” he said at an election rally.

The single-phase polling will be held in Goa on February 14 and the results will be declared on March 10, according to the Election Commission of India.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main Opposition Congress remain principal contenders for the Assembly elections in the state, even as they try to get allies to fight the intense, multi-cornered battle.
