All eligible individuals can log onto the National Voters’ Service Portal to check their names on the voter list. With five states slated to hold Assembly elections over the next two months, millions will soon find themselves queuing up to cast their vote. Ahead of that, it is imperative to make sure that your name is present on the voters’ list.The Election Commission of India provides all eligible voters with the option of searching for their names on the voter list via the National Voters’ Service Portal. One has to enter their name, assembly constituency and other relevant details to perform the search on voterportal.eci.gov.in or electoralsearch.in websites. Voters can also search for their names on the site by using their EPIC numbers. This 10 digit alphanumeric number is usually present on the voter card. After getting their EPIC numbers (it can be noted down from the electoral roll too), voters can also download e-EPIC from nvsp.in. This is a digital version of the voter card that can be downloaded to phones and laptops or stored in digital lockers. It is pertinent to note that users are also offered the option of downloading or accessing the electoral roll in a state-wise manner by using just their name or EPIC number on the state websites.Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa will be holding assembly elections between February 10 and March 7 in seven phases with votes being counted of votes on March 10. The Election Commission has put a slew of restrictive measures in place as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Announcing the poll dates, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra had assured voters that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure “COVID-19 safe” elections and said they should come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise as polling booths will be sanitised and polling officers vaccinated. The voting time has also been increased by an hour.
