The accused has been identified as Hurriyat Conference (G) Vice-Chairman Ghulam Ahmad Dar alias Gulzar son of Abdul Samad Dar of Kreeri Pattan Baramulla, at present Gungbugh Tangpora Batamloo. PSA is very similar to the National Security Act used by the central and other state governments of India for preventive detention.Two factions of the Hurriyat Conference There are currently two factions of the Hurriyat Conference and one is led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the other by Masarat Alam Bhat after the death of Syed Ali Shah Geelani who died 1 September 2021 at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar due to his prolonged illness. The Mirwaiz-led group is referred to as the “moderate faction” while the Geelani faction is known for promoting separatist politics in the Valley.
