New Delhi: Rejecting Union Minister Amit Shah’s security proposal, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that he does not like people with arms around him.

The Hyderabad MP further said that the value of his life is not more than people who died during the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Shah on Monday requested the AIMIM president to accept Z category protection, offered by the Central government after a recent firing on his convoy, saying he still faces security threat.

“Today in Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah asked me to accept Z category security. I want to say to him that value of my life is not more than 22 people who died during the CAA protest. I don’t like people with arms around me,” he said.

The AIMIM leader further said that he was a “free bird” and that he wants to live freely.

Making a statement in Rajya Sabha, the Home Minister said the Hyderabad MP has refused to take the CRPF protection.

“We have reassessed the security of Owaisi. We have provided him in Delhi a bullet-proof car under all India level Z category security of Central Reserve Police Force on the basis of assessment,” Shah said.

“As per the verbal information sent by Owaisi to us, he has refused to take security. I request Shri Owaisi through this House to take the security immediately and address our concern (about his safety),” he said in the Upper House.

Some unidentified miscreants opened fire at the car of the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on February 3 in Uttar Pradesh. However, Owaisi escaped unhurt and reached Delhi safely.

Two people were arrested after the incident and arms were also recovered.
