Bengaluru: Jagalur BJP MLA SV Ramachandra on Sunday celebrated his birthday in front of his residence in violation of the weekend curfew orders that have been imposed in Karnataka in view of the COVID-19 surge.

In violation of the prohibitory orders, Ramachandra celebrated his birthday in public and hundreds of people visited him to wish him. A score of attendees was seen without masks, which is mandatory as per the orders of the state government.

Not only this a video accessed by Times Now showed a policeman also attending the birthday celebration and sharing the state with the Jagalur BJP MLA.

To celebrate the birthday of Ramachandra, a pandal was erected near Gullamma Temple. The people paying a visit to the MLA blatantly flouted social distancing norms.

Meanwhile, the common people in Karnataka are angry with the politicians, cutting across party lines, who have been blatantly violating the COVID protocols. The people are angry as they have to follow the rule and shutdown their shops or establishments in view of the prohibitory orders imposed to contain the pandemic.

Earlier, Congress had launched ‘Mekedatu padayatra’ in Karnataka which showed the participation of thousands of people and blatantly violated COVID protocols.

The 10-day ‘Mekedatu padayatra’ was temporarily halted after severe criticism by the Karnataka High Court and a crackdown by the BJP government.

Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge, former union minister Veerappa Moily, former minister Shivashankar Reddy and other senior leaders of Congress who took part in the padayatra had tested positive for Covid.

Congress leaders including S Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar who actively participated in the 10-day yatra, denied that the event could have a super spreader in Karnataka.

The Karnataka HC had criticised and sent notices to the Basavaraj Bommai government in Karnataka as well as the opposition Congress on padayatra. Acting tough after the court’s intervention and public pressure, the state government finally began a crackdown on the padayatra.
