Maharashtra reports 48,270 cases of COVID-19, 2,073 more than Thursday; Omicron tally stands at 2,343

Mumbai: Maharashtra, on Friday, reported 48,270 cases of COVID-19. According to the latest data released by the state Health Department, Maharashtra reported 52 deaths due to COVID-19. The state reported an increase of 2,073 cases against Thursday. Currently, the active caseload in Maharashtra stands at 74,20,027. The death toll in Maharashtra reached 1,42,023. The fatality rate in the state currently stands at 1.91 per cent.

Maharashtra, which remains one of the worst-affected states in the country, has 2,343 cases of Omicron. According to the health department bulletin, 124 fresh cases of Omicron were reported in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, while eight were reported in Solapur, six in Pune rural, and one case each was reported in Parbhani, Jalgaon, Mumbai, Raigad, Satara, and Beed.

1,171 patients have recovered from the infection so far. The Health Department said that 23,87,593 people are under a home quarantine in Maharashtra, while 3,357 individuals are in institutional quarantine.

“Of the eight administrative circles, Pune recorded 18,785 COVID-19 cases, followed by Mumbai (10,493 cases), Nagpur (6,506), Nashik (5,181), Latur (2,169), Kolhapur (1,951), Aurangabad (1,743) and Akola (1,442 cases). Of 52 fatalities, Mumbai circle reported 27 deaths, Nashik seven, Pune six, Akola five, Latur three and Kolhapur and Nagpur two deaths each,” the Health Department said, news agency PTI reported.

7,29,51,286 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Maharashtra so far. On Thursday, the Union Health Ministry listed Maharashtra as one of the ‘states of concern’ and said that the central team has been sent to the state to monitor the situation in Maharashtra.
