‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ in all mandals

Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the facilities in government and local body schools will be on a par with corporate schools.

Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the government would not discriminate based on whether an Assembly seat was held by the ruling party or the opposition party while improving infrastructure in government schools across the State. Talking about the ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ programme, which will be launched on Tuesday, Harish Rao said the programme would be taken up in all mandals across the State.
Stating that the ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’/’Mana Basti – Mana Badi’ programme was being launched to provide facilities in government and local body schools on par with corporate schools, the Minister said the government was providing infrastructure as per the requirements of the modern era. Quoting the Kothari Commission, Harish Rao said the destiny of the country is shaped in classrooms.

“The State government wants to link classrooms with the wider world and is investing in digital education. To develop schools in a huge way across the State, ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ in rural areas and ‘Mana Basti-Mana Badi’ in urban areas with an outlay of Rs 7,289 crore is being launched,” he said.
In phase 1, a mandal is taken as a unit, and works in 9,123 schools within an outlay of Rs 3,497 crore would be grounded. These works will be taken up in those schools that have higher enrolment. As part of it, government and local body schools would be revamped under 12 different components. These include digital education, electrification, drinking water, furniture, repairs, painting, green chalkboard, kitchen sheds, compound walls, additional classrooms and toilets with running water while high schools would have dining halls as well.
The Minister also pointed out that the government had initiated measures for introducing English medium in all government schools. “Poor students who study in government schools should also have the benefit of studying in English and get opportunities on par with others. So, the government is introducing English as the medium of instruction,” he further said.
