New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stuck in Punjab’s Ferozepur due to farmers’ protests, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has alleged that the people who went near PM Modi’s convoy were not farmers, but a group that raised BJP flags and shouted slogans of ‘Narendra Modi Zindabad’.

In a statement, the SKM said that protesting farmers ‘did not even make an effort to go towards PM’s convoy’. “Only a group with BJP flag and raising “Narendra Modi Zindabad” slogan had reached near that convoy.  Therefore, the threat to the life of PM seems completely concocted,” SKM said, news agency ANI reported.

According to the SKM statement, the farmer organisations in Punjab had announced a symbolic protest upon hearing about PM Modi’s proposed visit to Ferozepur in Punjab. The main agenda of the protest was the demand seeking the resignation of Ajay Mishra Teni, the Minister of State (MoS) Home whose son is the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

Farmers there had no concrete info: SKM

“Some farmers were stopped by police from going to Ferozepur district HQ, they protested by sitting on the road at many places. Of these, was that flyover too where PM’s convoy came, stopped and went back. Farmers there had no concrete info that the PM’s convoy was going to pass through,” the SKM said.

As reported earlier by Times Now, the farmer groups were told by the police that the PM’s convoy would be reaching the rally site by road. The groups, however, thought that the police were ‘misguiding’ them and refused to leave the spot resulting in the mayhem that unfolded. A massive political controversy broke out after the incident and the BJP has slammed the Congress government in Punjab alleging that the security lapse was a deliberate attempt to demean the office of the PM.
