New Delhi: Union Minister and Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athawale on Thursday took a jibe at Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over the ‘spelling mistakes’ in his tweet criticising Union Budget 2022 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Athawale, known for his humorous remarks, today retweeted Tharoor’s tweet which had Budget’s spelling as ‘Bydget’ and reply as ‘rely’.

While criticising the Union Budget 2022-23, Tharoor had tweeted a picture of Sitharaman reading out the contents of the Budget text and Athawale astonishingly looking at her.

“Nearly two-hour rely to the Bydget debate. The stunned & incredulous expression on Minister @RamdasAthawale’s face says it all: even the Treasury benches can’t believe FinMin @nsitharaman’s claims about the economy & her Budget!” Tharoor had tweeted.

Reacting to the Congress MP’s sarcastic tweet, the RPI chief said: “Dear Shashi Tharoor ji, they say one is bound to make mistakes while making unnecessary claims and statements. It’s not “Bydget” but BUDGET. Also, not rely but “reply”!  Well, we understand!”

Shashi Tharoor is known to catch people’s attention is his intriguing use of lesser known words while tweeting or making statements on various issues and subjects.

Tharoor had termed the Union Budget as “extremely disappointing, a damp squib” and stressed there is absolutely nothing.

“Extremely disappointing, a damp squib! There seems to be absolutely nothing in this Budget. It’s an astonishingly disappointing Budget. When you listen to the speech, no mention of MGNREGA, of Defence, of any other urgent priorities facing the public,” the Congress Lok Sabah MP said.

While presenting the Union Budget in Parliament on February 1, 2022, Sitharaman said that India’s economic growth in the current year is estimated to be 9.2 per cent, the highest among all large economies.

The overall, sharp rebound and recovery of the economy from the adverse effects of the pandemic is reflective of our country’s strong resilience, she had said.
