Chandigarh: In an explosive claim, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday alleged that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had sent him a request to induct Navjot Singh Sidhu into his then Punjab Cabinet.

Singh further claimed that after sending the request, Imran Khan told him that he could remove Sidhu from his Cabinet if he did not work.

During a press briefing, the ex-CM of Punjab said, “Pakistan PM had sent a request saying ‘if you can take Sidhu into your Cabinet I will be grateful, he is an old friend of mine. You can remove him if he’ll not work’.”

It should be noted that Singh severed his decades-long ties with Congress and quit the chief minister post last year following a public feud with Sidhu, who now serves as the Punjab Congress chief.

Meanwhile, Amarinder Singh floated his own political party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) and is all set to take on Congress in the upcoming Punjab polls.

Amarinder Singh was speaking at a presser where BJP chief JP Nadda announced the seat-sharing formula with the PLC and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) for the Punjab Assembly elections.

As per the announcement, the BJP will contest on 65 seats while PLC and SAD(S) will field candidates from 37 and 15 seats respectively.

The Assembly elections in Punjab were earlier scheduled to be held on February 14, but were postponed for February 20 due to Covid restrictions. The results will be announced on March 10.
