Barnala, Punjab: A day before assembly elections in Punjab, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday fed cows at a gaushala (cowshed) in Bhadaur constituency of Barnala district.

CM Channi is contesting the elections from two assembly seats – Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib. He was named the party’s chief ministerial candidate by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi earlier this month.

“People of Punjab have said, we want someone from a poor home as the chief minister. Somebody who understands the plight, hunger, and fears of the poor. Because that’s what Punjab needs,” Gandhi had said while making the announcement at a public rally.

Meanwhile, a case under Section 188 of IPC has been filed against the Punjab chief minister and Congress candidate Sidhu Moose Wala for holding a door-to-door campaign in Mansa constituency allegedly after the end of campaigning yesterday evening.

The case was filed on Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) complaint.

The polling in Punjab will take place in a single phase on Sunday, February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10, as per the Election Commission of India.

The ruling Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are seen as the primary contenders in the Punjab elections this time. In the previous assembly polls, Congress won an absolute majority in the state by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government after 10 years in power.
