Chandigarh: With Congress leader Rahul Gandhi set to announce the name of the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday morning said that “all” would abide by the decision. The announcement will be made during a virtual rally in Ludhiana in the afternoon.

“Nothing great was ever achieved without an act of decision…warm welcome to our leading light Rahul Ji, who comes to give clarity to Punjab…all will abide by his decision!” Sidhu tweeted.

The remarks come less than a day after he appearted to take a swipe at the party high command, noting that a Chief Minister would be elected only 60 MLAs won the elections. Nobody, he noted, was talking about these MLAs or about the “roadmap for a government to be formed”. During another interaction this week the Punjab unit chief had claimed that the “people at the top” want a weak Chief Minister who can dance to their tunes.

“Did Navjot Singh Sidhu deviate from politics of issues? Did Sidhu deviate from policies? Did Sidhu deviate from budgetary allocations? Did Sidhu open his business or liquor store? My Punjab model is one to change lives of children, youth and people of the state,” he said on Saturday afternoon.

According to recent reports however, the Congress appears to be favouring Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Additionally, as per exclusive information accessed by Times Now, posters and other promotional material featuring the CM has already been readied.

Towards the end of last month, Rahul Gandhi said that both leaders had assured him that whoever was chosen as the CM face, would be supported by the other. “Normally, we do not do this but if the Congress party, our workers and Punjab want this, then we will decide on the CM face for you…both Sidhu and Channi gave me an assurance that two people cannot lead and only one can lead. Both told me whoever leads, the other will put all his energy behind him,” he had said during a rally.
