Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) has written to the Election Commission seeking the removal of some government officials alleging that they are close to the Uttar Pradesh dispensation and are working as BJP karyakartas.

The Akhilesh Yadav-headed party has accused Additional Chief Secretary Navneet Sehgal, UP ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar and ATS officials of acting as BJP karyakartas.

In its letter to the poll panel, the opposition party has said that removal of these top government officials are neceassary for free and fair Uttar Pradesh elections 2022.

The Election Commission of India on January 8 announced the schedule for election to Legislative Assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand.

Uttar Pradesh has 403 Assembly seats, out of which 84 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and two for Scheduled Tribes.

Some pre-election surveys have indicted that though Yogi Adityanath-led BJP will come back to power, Akhilesh’s Samajwadi Party would perform well in the UP elections 2022.

The BJP has also acknowledged that Samajwadi Party is the main rival party and not the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The BJP has exuded confidence in winning the Uttar Pradesh polls 2022 comfortably by winning over 300 Assembly seats.

The Election Commission has declared that voting for the high-stakes Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held in seven phases, with the first phase on February 10 and the final day of voting on March 7.

In Uttar Pradesh, the voting in the first phase will take place on, the second phase to be held on February 14, the third phase of voting will be on February 20, while the fourth phase will see voting on February 23.

The fifth phase will be held on February 27, while the sixth phase on March 3 and the remaining 54 seats in the last and seventh phase on March 7.
